The heart of America is where my parents, Rehan and Sabukun, decided to raise my older sister Anika and I after immigrating from Bangladesh over 30 years ago. I was born and raised in Topeka and moved to Lawrence to study at the University of Kansas, after graduating from Washburn Rural High School. I am currently in my 2nd year at KU, majoring in Political Science and Global and International Studies.
For the entirety of my adult life, I have been dedicated to improving civic engagement and combating environmental, economic, and human rights issues. I have helped organize protests on Gun Control, Climate Action, Reproductive Rights, and Medicaid expansion throughout Eastern Kansas. Because of my political work as Vice-President of KU Young Democrats and Secretary of Kansas Young Democrats, I know what it takes to improve the status of young democrats in Kansas.
Why I am running
I am running because I believe that Kansas has the potential to be a leader for democratic values. Kansas was founded on progressive roots, and I believe that the Kansas Young Democrats can help steer the state back towards its progressive heart. The Kansas Young Democrats are the only organization in the state dedicated to engaging democratic youth. I want to reform Kansas Young Democrats so it can be a dynamic and influential force in the state.
